According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Indian Camp Creek, located near Wright City and Foristell, does not meet water quality standards due to inorganic sediment. Inorganic sediment is made up of mineral particles such as clay, silt, sand, assorted-sized rocks and other non-organic materials.

The Federal Clean Water Act requires the department to develop a document called a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL). A TMDL is a study of impaired waters which sets the maximum amount of a pollutant the waters can absorb before quality is affected.

The TMDL draft states that Indian Camp Creek’s pollutant source is likely the JZ Landfill.

Peruse the TMDL draft.

What do you say?

The public is invited to participate in the TMDL process. Written comments will be accepted through Dec. 12, 2009 and should be sent to the Department of Natural Resources, Water Protection Program, Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment Section, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0176.

Or comment by e-mail to john.hoke@dnr.mo.gov. E-mail comments should include the sender’s name, mailing address and phone number.
