Strings of lights seem to mock even the best holiday decorators. Don’t just trash them. Recycle instead.

When thrown in regular trash, strands of lights cause trouble by wrapping around sorting equipment. This results in expensive damage.

St. Peters’ Recycle City will accept non-working strands of lights. Just place them in the container specifically marked for used light strands. This program is open to everyone, not only St. Peters residents.

“Last year you diverted 7.63 tons of non-working Christmas light cords from the landfill by using our Christmas light recycling program. The year before, you recycled 4.5 tons of light strands. With your help, we can keep many more tons of recyclable items out of the landfill,” said Mayor Pagano.

To get to Recycle City: Take I-70 to Mid Rivers Mall Drive. Head north a few blocks and turn right on Ecology Drive until you see Recycle City on the left.
