A tricycle grows up

Check out this Peak Moment video about the “tadpole,” a three-wheeled human-powered vehicle.
Enthusiast Galen Shumacher displays a model which the Human-Powered Vehicle (HPV) Club at Chico State University used to win at competition.
The vehicle has two wheels in the front and one in the back, is aerodynamic and user-friendly. It could even be fitted to carry groceries. Though it sits low to the ground, there is a much more secure feeling than on a two-wheeled bicycle.
Is this the wave of the future? Shumacher says we aren’t there quite yet. American companies are not pursuing manufacturing these types of vehicles. But, he says, there is going to be a point in our culture when vehicles such as the tadpole become a much more viable transportation method.
