Faith Ringgold lecture at the Foundry

World-renowned painter, writer, and quilter Faith Ringgold will hold a lecture and share stories of her incredible art career on November 11, 2011 at 7pm at the Foundry Art Centre in historic St. Charles. Ringgold’s art has been exhibited all over the world and she has received numerous awards for her artwork, children’s books and story quilts. Her work is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the St. Louis Art Museum, to name a few.
Ringgold’s lecture, “Children’s Books and Story Quilts,” focuses on storytelling and the combination of image and text. It begins with the story quilts of the 1980s, and moves between images from books to images on quilts. Hear the story about how Ms. Ringgold's first children's book, Tar Beach, began as a painting and evolved into an award-winning children's book.

The Foundry Art Centre is a fine arts gallery overlooking the Missouri River at 520 North Main Center, in the Frenchtown district of Historic St. Charles. The Foundry features a Smithsonian-caliber art gallery hosting national juried exhibitions plus 20 working art studios where visitors can watch the creative process and buy art directly from the artists. The not-for-profit art centre also provides community meeting rooms, event space and a children’s art gallery. Hours are Tuesday - Thursday from 10-8pm, Friday and Saturday from 10-5pm, and Sunday 12-4. Admission is free, and donations are welcome.
