14th Annual Mosaics Missouri Festival for the Arts

The 14th Annual Mosaics Missouri Festival for the Arts will be September 19, 20 and 21, 2008 on North Main Street in Historic St. Charles. The free festival runs from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m – 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday and focuses on art, family fun, and creativity.
- Over one-hundred juried and invited artists from across the state, region and country will exhibit, discuss, and sell artwork. Paintings, sculptures, photography, glass, jewelry, metal and woodworking are just a sample of the media represented.
- Three Performance Stages will show case a multi-cultural approach to performing arts. Scheduled performing artists for the three-day festival include Trio Blanchett, Poor People of Paris, and Native American flutist, Mark Holland. The St. Charles County Symphony will perform on Saturday, 3 p.m. at the Foundry Art Centre, 520 North Main Center, St. Charles, Mo.
- Children’s Village, located on the Foundry Art Centre parking lot, will provide hands-on experience for children of all ages. St. Charles Community College will host a Native American Children’s Art Exhibit. Tandem activities for children will include creating a headdress, painting sand, and decorating pueblo-style pottery. Art on Stage, another feature of the Children’s Village is collaboration with professional potters who assist children in creating a clay pot on the potter’s wheel. The Art for Youth Gallery is where young patrons under 18 will be able to purchase a piece of art for five-dollars. Adults are not allowed in the Art for Youth Gallery and the purpose is so children can develop their own sense of personal style and taste, without adult guidance, when selecting artwork they will own. Artists who are participating in the festival donate the artwork and the proceeds from Art for Youth Gallery will fund educational art projects for the St. Charles Region.
Over the course of the three-day festival, six performances by Abra-Kid-Abra are scheduled. Three circus shows, two magic shows and a medicine show will be performed for the entertainment of children and adults alike.
The 4 Square Improv Group, featuring the talents of four performers, will engage children, on-stage, in a comedy-based, family friendly scenario.
- The Print Factory - Centered on a portable printing press, the Print Factory, although located in the Children’s Village, is for adults only to have the experience printing art, on-site, and free of charge. The crew of the Print Factory will share the process and the product of printmaking with them, to completion. The Print Factory uses plates donated by artists across the nation as part of their catalog.
- Mentor Me Exhibition will be in the Baue Family Gallery at The Foundry Art Centre beginning Friday, September 19 and continuing through October 12, 2008. Mentor Me is a program recognizing regional art teachers, students and school districts for their arts programming and the exhibition includes artwork from both students and their teachers. The Governor of Missouri has supported and recognized Mentor Me for the past 12 years, and participating students and teachers all receive a Certificate of Participation, signed by Governor Matt Blunt.
Mosaics brings art appreciation, enjoyment, awareness and education, free-of-charge, to the Saint Charles and St. Louis region. It gives festival participants an opportunity to interact directly with artists and provides a safe, fun, weekend’s event for the entire family.

The Foundry Art Centre is a fine arts gallery overlooking the Missouri River at 520 North Main Center, in the Frenchtown district of Historic St. Charles. The Foundry features a Smithsonian-caliber art gallery hosting national juried exhibitions plus 20 working artist studios where visitors can watch the creative process and buy art directly from the artists. The not-for-profit art centre also provides community meeting rooms, event space and a children’s art gallery.
