John Weber of Boise, Idaho makes as much electricity, through solar panels on his roof, as he uses in one year.

Weber’s 1988 Ford Festiva runs on solar electricity and costs just two cents per mile to run.

How does he do it? Check out this episode of Peak Moment to find out.

Next on the agenda for the sustainability guru: bicycle enthusiasm and suburban homesteading to grow his own food on a small plot.

Weber belongs to a group of like-minded individuals called The Boise Sustainable Living Community. These neighbors enjoy a gift economy in which members share food, labor and advice.

As Weber demonstrates, one man can make a difference; but “we need community in order to make this all work,” he said.

Solar panels like these at the Dancing Rabbit Community near Rutledge, Missouri, can provide enough electricity to run a household.
