County encourages residents to grow their own

To battle rising food prices and promote the taste of homegrown produce, the St. Charles County Parks Department’s Horticultural staff will teach participants to Build a Container Vegetable Garden at 10 a.m. on Sat., April 18 at the Youth Activity Park.
The two-hour class will provide sprouts as well as the guidance needed to grow veggies in backyard containers.
Participants are asked to bring their own containers (up to 16 inches in size) and gloves; but the planting soil, seeds, seedlings and equipment will be provided. Attendees will be able to plant various types of lettuce, peppers and potatoes.
