Isn’t naked bike riding illegal?

St. Louis
Probably. But perhaps law enforcement will expose a sense of humor during the upcoming World Naked Bike Ride in St. Louis on Sat., Aug. 2.
The St. Louis World Naked Bike Ride website acknowledges that naked bicycle riding is illegal most everywhere in the world, but they do it anyway.
Besides, all riders won’t be totally naked, just “as bare as they dare.” Some may choose body paint or a piece of duct tape here or there to cover up instead of going totally nude. Some may even choose to participate fully clothed.
The purposes of the bare bike ride are to protest oil dependency, promote comfortable body images, increase awareness of cyclists in a motor-driven world and to provide exercise and a fun time for all participants.
Though the ride is sure to assume a party-type atmosphere, the riders will be traveling side-by-side auto traffic, obviously exposed. This physically vulnerable visual will convey their message in a truly unforgettable way.
On Aug. 2, the bike riders will meet at Tower Grove Park at the Pool Pavilion (near the north entrance at Tower Grove Avenue and Magnolia). At 7:00 p.m., there will be pre-ride body painting before departing for the ride at 9:00 p.m. The ride will end at Atomic Cowboy, 4140 Manchester Avenue in St. Louis.
This will be the event’s first time in St. Louis, but the ride has been held in other cities around the world, including Chicago.
