St. Charles County Parks Department Director Bettie Yahn-Kramer will be inducted as a fellow in the prestigious American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration at their Oct. 28 meeting in Minneapolis.

“I am so proud to have the opportunity to work in a profession that has never been anything less than fulfilling,” Yahn-Kramer said. “To be recognized for one’s life work by peer professionals with exemplary standards is simply the best affirmation possible. It’s great to love what you do, and I am most grateful for this honor.”

The academy was founded in 1980 and is limited to 125 professionals throughout the country, who serve in high level positions of parks and recreation administration or in institutions of higher learning and who also make significant contributions to their profession.

Bettie Yahn-Kramer was born and raised in St. Charles County and serves as the St. Charles County Parks Department Director. Yahn-Kramer earned a Bachelor of Science from the College of Agriculture at the University of Missouri-Columbia and worked for more than 20 years with the Jackson County, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department, serving as the director for nine years. She returned in 2001 to St. Charles County and to lead the county’s parks system.

Yahn-Kramer was elected president of the Missouri Park and Recreation Association from 1997 to 1998 and chair of the Great Lakes Regional Council of the National Recreation and Park Association in 2000. She was elected to the National Forum governance body of the NRPA for two terms, 2003-2008.
