Trees inside the house? Puppy senses something special is going on. Don’t exclude your best friend from the festivities!
While baking the usual holiday cookies and candies, whip up some goodies for the one who does all the work around the house (alarm system, taste tester, foot warmer, therapist, vacuum cleaner).
These cookies are great for puppies and older dogs who need soft foods:
Puppy Cookies
Ingredients:
2 jars (3 ½ oz. ea.) strained beef baby food
¼ cup dry milk
½ cup wheat germ
Mix ingredients. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Flatten with a fork. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes until brown.
Or create some festive holiday shapes from this recipe:
Dog Biscuits
Ingredients:
¾ cup hot water
1/3 cup margarine
½ cup powdered milk
1 egg, beaten
3 cups whole wheat flour
In a large bowl, pour hot water over the margarine. Stir in powdered milk and egg. Add flour ½ cup at a time. Knead for a few minutes to form stiff dough. Pat and roll into ½ inch thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
Bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes (to get hard and dry). Cool.
Be aware of any allergies your dog may have. As with all treats, these should be consumed in moderation.
