The St. Charles County Parks Department will host the Seventh Annual Paws in the Park celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sat., May 1 at the Quail Ridge Park Off-Leash Dog Area in Wentzville. The free event will offer pets and their families a fun opportunity to enjoy St. Charles County’s community dog parks, which are unique in that they’re free and open to all who follow the park rules.

Paws in the Park has grown to be one of our most popular programs of the year,” Parks Director Bettie Yahn-Kramer said. “It’s wonderful to see hundreds of guests and their dogs enjoying a beautiful afternoon in the park; while learning about their pets from many of the area’s pet-friendly organizations. This event is a fun way to kick off the season for our off-leash dog areas, which rank among our most enjoyed park amenities.”

Paws in the Park is a dog-focused, family-friendly exhibition featuring contests, a raffle, exhibits from pet-friendly organizations, and a barbecue fundraiser sponsored by the Wentzville VFW. The event will kick off at 11 a.m. with games, contests, raffles, and informational exhibits. Contests are: Best Trick (to be held at noon) and “Dunkin Dogs” (scheduled for 1:30 p.m.). In addition to the exhibits and contests, guests may discover how to assist with the off-leash dog areas by becoming a “Watch Dog” volunteer during a brief instructional class scheduled at 11:30 a.m. For more information, please call 636-949-7535.

Various organizations will host booths promoting pet health, pet services, grooming, and other topics throughout the day. The St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center will have dogs available on-site for adoption and offer $10 micro-chipping for family pets; while Westinn Kennels will conduct free nail clippings. Event sponsors are the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center, Westinn Kennels, the Community News, the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation, O’Fallon Veterinary Medical Clinic, The Yuppy Puppy Pet Spa, the St. Charles Humane Society, the Animal Medical Center of Wentzville, Pets & Property/Keller Williams Realty—St. Louis, the Wentzville VFW Post 5327, and the St. Charles County Parks Department. Additional organizations interested in sponsoring or exhibiting at the event should contact Doug Bolnick (636-949-7535) before April 23.

The 2.5-acre fenced off-leash area at Quail Ridge Park offers separate areas for large and small dogs, a covered pavilion, and benches to relax. Quail Ridge Park is located just south of Interstate 70, near Highway 40/61 and Callahan Road. The off-leash area is located on Pawpaw Drive within the park.
