from St. Charles County Parks Department
April 28, 2009
St. Charles County, MO
The St. Charles County Parks Department will host the Sixth Annual Paws in the Park celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Sat., May 9 at the Quail Ridge Park Off-Leash Dog Area in Wentzville. The free event will offer pets and their families a fun opportunity to enjoy St. Charles County’s community dog parks, which are unique in that they’re free and open to all guests and their pets.
Paws in the Park is a dog-focused, family friendly exhibition featuring contests, a raffle, exhibits from pet-friendly organizations, and a barbecue fundraiser sponsored by the Wentzville VFW. The event will kick off at 11 a.m. with a new event this year – Paws on Parade, which is a guided walk along the park’s trail with your dog or with one provided by the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center.
Contests are: Best Trick (to be held at noon) and “Dunkin Dogs” (scheduled for 1:30 p.m.). In addition to the exhibits and contests, guests may discover how to become a “Watch Dog” volunteer assisting with the off-leash dog areas by attending a brief instructional class scheduled at 12:30 p.m.
For more information, or to register to attend Paws in the Park, please call 636-949-7535. Those wishing to walk a shelter dog as a part of the Paws on Parade must pre-register before May 1, 2009, as a limited number of dogs are available for this activity.
Various organizations will provide informational exhibits on pet health, pet services, grooming and other topics throughout the day. The St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center will have dogs available on-site for adoption and offer micro-chipping for family pets; while Westinn Kennels will conduct free nail clippings. Event sponsors are Kennelwood Pet Resorts, the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center, Westinn Kennels, Doggie Dreams Bakery, Bark Central Kennel and Pet Resort, Yucko’s Poop Scoop‘n Service and Products, the Wentzville VFW Post 5327, and the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation. Additional organizations interested in sponsoring or exhibiting at the event should contact Doug Bolnick (636-949-7535) before May 6.
