October is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. What a perfect excuse to visit the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center and take a buddy home.

In many cases, it’s actually healthy to welcome a canine companion into your life. Studies indicate that dogs improve humans’ emotional health, encourage people to exercise as well as bring joy and laughter into a home.

Adoption fees at the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center are super deals. The adoption fee for a puppy is $60; an adult dog/$50; a kitten/$40; and an adult cat/$30. What’s more, the adoption fee includes: a new pet health exam, initial vaccinations, spay or neuter service, temperament education and micro-chipping.

“There are many benefits to owning a pet,” said Theresa Williams, director of the St. Charles County Division of Humane Services. “By providing a home to an animal that doesn’t have one, you can help reduce the shelter population and gain a faithful, furry sidekick.”

The St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Wednesdays, the hours are extended from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 636-949-PETS (7387).
