Jumpers croak on Dalbow Road

While searching for suitable flood photos on Dalbow Road, we ran across hundreds (I’m sure there were at least hundreds) of frogs wasting the day away by sitting in the road.
They probably just figured they were sunning themselves on the shore, because the flood brimmed right up to Dalbow Road. In some spots, water even blanketed the road completely.

I was panic-stricken with the thought of running over the croakers. It took quite a while to bob and weave down the road to avoid them.
As our car passed, we heard many plops and splashes as they retreated to the water.
Some cars just flew down the road like normal. A driver, upon first glance, probably doesn’t realize those are frogs in the road. They look like rocks. But still, I grieved for my new friends who surely didn’t make it.
So, if you drive down Dalbow Road (off Highway 79 in the O’Fallon/St. Paul area), be respectful of its green residents.
They were such cuties. You do find frogs attractive, don’t you?
We were sure to get many photos of them…just for you!
