Hollywood’s Hottest Moms Hit the Town—What?

Is this Hollywood’s attempt to honor mothers I wondered as I read the article that was blasted on the internet this Mother’s Day weekend? Oh I know Hollywood intends to be flattering as they allude to these moms’ physical attributes, but in my little part of this world, I find that to be a ludicrous and disrespectful statement. I guess it depends on a person’s values and how the word “hot” is defined.

I can remember living at home with my “hot” mom. My dear mom worked long, hard hours to keep her family in clean clothes, a clean home and to provide us with nutritious, delicious meals. And she did it BECAUSE she loved us and saw this as her calling. And we worked alongside her – so I guess you could say the entire family was “hot.” This was before air conditioning – when hot meant overheated! After the addition of air conditioning, I guess you could say we were a “cool” family as we continued to work together.

My mother will celebrate her 80th birthday this year and as her daughter, I am proud to tell you that my mother is beautiful – inside AND out. Now this is a word that conjures up a different picture of mom – someone to be respected, revered and honored.

Yes, Webster notes that the word hot also refers to one’s sexuality, but in my eyes, that was my dad’s prerogative ONLY to see my mother as “hot” while still respecting her and loving her.

I sincerely hope the children of these Hollywood moms will be able to look back with fond memories of their mothers – memories that surpass the physical attributes they possessed at a younger age. Hopefully they too will be able to say their mothers were beautiful – both inside and out.
