Some theorists believe December 21, 2012 is special, but in a bad way.
This week, Ryan Webster, 22, of the 100 block of Margaux Court in St. Charles was charged with possession of stolen explosives, seemingly to prepare for the end of the world in 2012. This news may spur curiosity into what’s been dubbed “The 2012 Problem.”
The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar (used to measure dates over periods longer than 52 years) ends its cycle in the year 2012. Specifically, the date December 21, 2012 coincides with the next pole shift as well as the occurrence of a galactic alignment, when the December solstice sun converges with the center of the Milky Way.
However the Mayas have recorded dates beyond 2012, mostly as distance dates. Many representatives from the archaeological community say there is no reason to believe the Mayas thought the world will end in 2012.

One thing we do know: The 2012 Problem will be put to rest in a little less than four years.
